Tummy Tuck Stockton
There are times when diet and exercise are not enough to give us the flat and toned abdomen we desire. Looking and feeling your best is critical not only to your self-image but also to your state of mind. This cosmetic surgery is one of the most common procedures amongst not just women, but men as well. Our experienced plastic surgeons can give you the abdominal results you desire with tummy tuck (Abdominoplasty) Surgery in our Stockton surgery center.
WHAT IS A TUMMY TUCK (ABDOMINOPLASTY)?
Abdominoplasty, more commonly referred to as a tummy tuck, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that helps remove excess fat and skin from around the stomach and waist area. This procedure is popular with women who have given birth or lost a large amount of weight. However, this procedure is not just for women. It is a very common surgery amongst men as well. Anyone who has experienced a fluctuation in weight and has gone to the hard work to lose weight, may experience loose and hanging skin on their stomach. As the stomach begins to sag and muscles lose their firmness, a tummy tuck is often seen as the way to go to bring back the bikini-ready body.
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR THIS COSMETIC PROCEDURE?
A person must be in good health to be considered for this procedure. They must have a realistic goal for the surgery, and not be suffering from depression or other mental conditions. It’s a good idea to wait until a person has reached their desired weight or given birth to their last child before choosing a tummy tuck because the muscles and skin in the area can become stretched again.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ABDOMINOPLASTY?
In the world of cosmetic and plastic surgery, you may have come across differing terms related to this procedure. Some of you may be familiar with the following phrases:
Mini Tummy Tuck
Traditional Tummy Tuck
Extended Tummy Tuck
Reverse Tummy Tuck
Circrumferential Tummy Tuck
During your consultation, please familiarize yourself with these terms so that your plastic surgeon and patient coordinator can provide you with all the answers you need to make a decision about what is best for your body.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE PROCEDURE?
In most cases, general anesthesia is used. An incision is made along the lower abdomen above the pubic area. Lengthwise, it may extend from one hip to another. The surgeon separates the skin from the muscles around the abdomen in this area up towards the rib cage. The excess skin and fat are removed and the muscles around the stomach are stretched and tightened. The skin is pulled down and stitched into place. Drains may be placed under the skin for a few days to help with post-op drainage.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER MY SURGERY?
You will experience some soreness after the procedure, but you are able to walk. In fact, you will be encouraged to walk as much as you can to help reduce the pain and stiffness. It may take several days for you to be able to stand up straight, and the skin will feel tight around the area. Any drains that were inserted will be removed between four days to two weeks after surgery. The doctor will limit your activities for at least two weeks. You’ll also have to wear an abdominal pressure garment to keep everything in place during the healing process.
You should expect some swelling and bruising after surgery. The amount will vary, so you should ask your doctor how much to expect. You will probably be in pain, but the severity varies. Our plastic surgeons will provide a prescription for painkillers to keep you comfortable.
WILL THERE BE SCARRING AFTER MY SURGERY?
Yes, scarring occurs with this cosmetic procedure, but how large and how noticeable will depend on the type of procedure and how well you normally heal. Most of the time, the scar can be hidden by a bikini bottom. At New Body MD Stockton we also offer our patients bioCorneum®+ scar gel which helps in expediting the healing of a scar. It is a patented silicone gel that creates an unnoticeable layer over the scar. It is also FDA cleared. This gel is waterproof and also provides a safeguard from the sun. You can read more about bioCorneum®+ scar gel and tummy tuck healing by clicking here.
is a quick drying, patented silicone gel that creates an invisible silicone sheet over the scar and is FDA cleared. The invisible protective barrier is breathable, flexible, waterproof, and the only silicone scar gel that provides protection from the sun.
WHEN WILL I SEE MY RESULTS?
It can take a few weeks for the swelling to go down and for you to notice the results. Allow your body time to heal before you begin analyzing it.
ARE THERE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH UNDERGOING THIS PLASTIC SURGERY PROCEDURE?
An abdominoplasty is not a minor surgery, so you must carefully consider it before making a final decision. There are risks associated with the procedure, which may be complicated if other surgical techniques are done at the same time. Liposuction is one procedure that is often done in conjunction with a tummy tuck.
It’s a good idea to make a list of all your questions and concerns when you meet with our plastic surgeons at New Body MD for a consultation. They will be able to discuss this procedure with you, help you determine if it’s right for you, and allay any fears you may have.
